Award Nominated Project within Old Town Conservation Area
One of those moments where you find out after the fact…

A project that we worked on back in April 2023, while the practice was still RB Heritage, has since been granted planning permission, works have completed — and is now up for an award!
At the time, this was one of our first proper “big girl” projects: a Heritage Statement supporting a rooftop extension to The Counting House, within the Old Town Conservation Area, surrounded by designated heritage assets and locally listed buildings.
It was a challenging scheme, involving careful consideration of setting, townscape, roofscape and the cumulative impact on nearby assets, and it’s genuinely rewarding to see it move forward successfully.
We may not have been told at the time (heritage consultants: we’ve all been there…), but seeing this project recognised now is a really satisfying reminder that good, proportionate heritage work does its job quietly and sometimes you only realise later just how far it’s travelled.
