Heritage Assessment for Victorian Pumping Station
We completed a Heritage Assessment for an industrial heritage site in Nottinghamshire.

We had the privilege of working on this project in 2024 - one of Nottinghamshire’s most remarkable industrial heritage sites Papplewick Pumping Station - a masterpiece of Victorian engineering and design.
Commissioned as part of a planning application, our Heritage Statement assessed the impact of proposals to introduce a new multifunctional exhibition and dining space within the Grade II* listed ensemble. The wider site, a Registered Park and Garden (Grade II) and Scheduled Monument, is celebrated for its ornate architecture, steam engines, and beautifully preserved landscape.
Our assessment found that the carefully designed scheme, which uses sympathetic materials and references the site’s industrial character, would not only preserve but enhance the significance of the Pumping Station and its associated assets. Although the application is still awaiting determination, Historic England has supported the proposals, recognising that the works would enhance public enjoyment and presentation of the Scheduled Monument and raise no heritage objections.
The project represents an exciting step towards creating more public engagement opportunities at this important heritage attraction, ensuring its historic integrity is maintained whilst securing its future as a living, educational site.
